ACFFL Travel Teams
The ACFFL travel teams are select competitive squads that represents the league at nationwide NGFFL tournaments and away events beyond regular local games. Here’s what that looks like:
Competitive Representation
Players from the ACFFL league are chosen (via tryouts or player rating selection) to form travel teams specifically to compete in larger events, to include, especially the Gay Bowl — the NGFFL’s national championship tournament.
Teams are formed into two divisions:
Open Division: Designed for everyone, with no exclusions based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or skill level.
Womens+ Division (W+): Designed specifically for women and gender-non-conforming players.
Travel teams usually practice more intensely and travel to other cities for regional or national competitions.
Community and Identity
ACFFL travel teams aren’t just about competitiveness — they also represent San Antonio’s LGBTQ+ flag football community at bigger flag football gatherings and championships.
Tryouts & Participation
ACFFL typically posts travel team interest forms, captain applications, and coach interest forms for those wanting to be part of the travel teams.
Tryouts gather players from the general ACFFL membership who want to compete at a higher level.
Why It Matters
Joining a travel team through ACFFL means:
· Playing more competitive games against teams from other cities.
· Traveling with a team to showcase your skills at NGFFL tournaments like Gay Bowl.
· Representing your city’s queer flag football community.
· Building friendships and deeper community ties.
